About Music Together Do-Re-Mi — Music Classes in Marin
Music Together Do-Re-Mi is a licensed Music Together center offering early childhood music and movement program in Mill Valley, Sausalito, and the surrounding areas in Marin County, California.
Classes are designed to nurture children’s innate musicality — their natural ability to connect, understand, and express music. Our weekly playfully engaging classes are for children from 0 to 5 years old, and the grown-ups who love them!
Teacher Pey-Ning
Music Together Do-Re-Mi Center Director
Teacher Pey-Ning learned to play the piano and violin at a young age. Practicing her instruments, participating in performances and competitions were part of her musical experiences growing up, but they were not always fun or sparked joy.
She went on to work in tech and financial industries for two decades before pivoting to music education. She rediscovered the joy of music when she began teaching private piano lessons for an after-school music program. Her appreciation for music education deepened when she attended Music Together classes with her toddler. She and her son always looked forward to attending those fun and playful classes with their favorite Music Together teacher. They loved singing in class and everywhere they went, whether it was on the playground, on the road, or at home. She witnessed firsthand the transformative power of music in early childhood development.
From there, she knew that teaching Music Together was meant to be part of her musical journey. She is excited to share her love of music, the joy it brings, and the sense of community that comes with being part of the Music Together family.
"Learning music is like learning another language. Music is a universal language that can connect people, create emotional bonds, and make lasting memories. My teaching style is to support kids as they learn this new language. It is intentionally playful as they explore, learn at their own pace, and grow in their own way. They are allowed to practice whatever they see, hear, or feel, completely free from the pressure of making mistakes, being judged, or pleasing people. Through music they will learn more about themselves, see beauty in life, and know what it means to be human."
What is Music Together®?
Music Together is an internationally recognized music program founded in 1987. The music curriculum is rooted in decades of research in music education, early childhood development, and neuroscience.
The core mission of Music Together is to make the world a better place by making it more musical. We do this by providing the highest-quality music and movement classes to families everywhere, and by involving parents and caregivers. When a family starts making music together early in their child's life, their relationship to music changes, and they begin to recognize that they are indeed a musical family!
There are four principles to Music Together:
- All children are born musical.
- All children can achieve basic music competence — that is, they can learn to sing in tune and dance accurately to a beat.
- It's crucial that parents and caregivers participate in class and model music-making for their children in class and at home, regardless of their own musical ability.
- The environment that best fosters young children's musical growth is playful, musically rich, and developmentally appropriate.
How children learn
Children learn through play, from their caregivers, by observing their environment, and having all the essential engagements repeated again and again and again…and again! We also know that all children are born musical — they can learn to sing and dance just as they learn how to walk and talk.
This is why we put so much focus on providing great music, leading playful developmentally appropriate activities, and cultivating a musically rich environment where the community can come and learn music together.
